Harvest Festival of Llíber
There are moments in the agricultural year that simply demand to be celebrated. The grape harvest is one of them — that precious point in the season when the vines of the Vall de Pop reach perfect ripeness and an entire village comes together in joyful celebration. In Llíber, this annual ritual takes the form of the Harvest Festival, an wine tourism experience that fills the village with aromas, music and laughter every September. In 2026, the festivities take place on 26 and 27 September.
Llíber and wine: a centuries-old bond
Llíber is a small village in the Marina Alta comarca whose history is inseparable from viticulture. The vineyards that spread across the Vall de Pop — that sheltered inland valley connecting the coast with the Bernia massif — once produced Muscat and Malvasia grapes that made the area renowned throughout the Mediterranean. Today, local producers are reviving ancient vine varieties and experimenting with indigenous grapes, attracting growing attention from wine lovers across Europe.
The Harvest Festival is the culmination of this agricultural year — a moment to share with neighbours and visitors the pride of a product that carries the unmistakable stamp of its terroir.
Festival programme
Guided wine tastings
The heart of the festival is the guided wine tasting programme, led by local sommeliers and winemakers. You’ll learn to identify the characteristics of Vall de Pop wines, explore their unique aromas and flavours, and understand why this microclimate produces wines of such distinctive character. Tastings run across multiple sessions over the two days.
Traditional grape treading
One of the most joyful moments of the festival is the traditional grape treading — a living demonstration of the ancient winemaking technique that delights visitors of all ages and generations.
Local produce market
A street market brings together artisan producers of olive oil, honey, cheeses, cured meats and other Marina Alta specialities. The perfect opportunity to take home authentic flavours of the region.
Live music
The festival atmosphere is enhanced by live music throughout both days, ranging from traditional Valencian folk to contemporary styles. The main street of Llíber becomes an open-air stage where the celebration continues well into the evening.
Gastronomy
The surrounding area offers excellent food based on local produce. During the festival, expect to enjoy:
- Rice dishes with local ingredients: cooked with produce from the surrounding countryside.
- Artisan cheeses and cured meats: typical products from the inland Marina Alta.
- Muscat-based desserts and sweets: traditional delicacies that star during the harvest season.
